I am passionate about helping private inventors and small businesses get the intellectual property legal help that they need. My father is an inventor who had many of his inventions stolen. I recall him trying to get a patent attorney to help, but it was intimidating and very expensive. When I worked for law firms, I found we couldn't really offer much to the struggling inventor who didn't have at least ten to fifteen thousand dollars to pay for a patent. I founded our firm with the goal to educate, answer questions and keep our fees within reach of the private inventor and small business. I received my B.S. Degree in Physics and a M.S. in Science Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz. I received my JD with Honors from Drake University Law School. I worked as an intellectual property associate with the law firm of Ostrolenk, Faber, Gerb & Soffen, P.A. in Manhattan. I worked on a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, computer and internet patents while at Ostrolenk. Some representative clients included Chase, Olympus, Fuji Electric, Mitsubishi Motors and International Rectifier. I am admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and am a member of the New York State Bar where I am admitted to practice in Federal Court in both the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York (not admitted in the State of Iowa). I worked in a research laboratory on several industry sponsored programs designing and building thin film quantum display devices. I taught physics both in high school and at college. I was a consultant helping to integrate technology into the classroom. I have also worked with major corporations such as Texaco and International Paper to develop linkages between industry and education.
